I genuinely don’t know who Elon really is.

But what I do know that your plea, your epistle, your innate hope that it could actually reach him and thus provide him with some cerebral searching …is a quiet masterpiece.

Thanks for Trying.

It's a nice thought that Elon is a decent human being who has temporarily lost his way. I think this is fantasy. The nazis salutes and the shaming of his trans child prove he is irredeemable as a progressive human.

The thought is more that he could become a more decent human being, change his ways. I like to believe it's always an option, though yes, it's hard to get over these. But I'd rather he changed, than not...

Wrong. Just like David Horowitz and Clarence Thomas who were ‘leftist’ when young… then swung to extremely far right. Sometimes people who are raised extremely conservative end up growing into being progressive greens.

People can and do change. Very unlikely for drumpfTer (78), Musk (53) potentially has more time. He is less ossified…

Unfortunately, the diseases of racism, misogyny, greed… and the allure of unbridled power are not easily cured.

On another note, Unless we have a swift global collapse, we will have continuously occupied habitat on the moon within the next 10 years. It may not be in my lifetime when we move further out however it is quite possible.

Let an old indigenous medicine man told a group of this years ago, “unless we get our shit together here on earth we’ll just be taking the same problems with us.“

Yes, and I actually have similar words in this piece on why we're not going to Mars:

https://open.substack.com/pub/heyslick/p/launchpad-to-nowhere-the-mars-mirage

The moon is more a more realistic goal, however strange that sentence feels to write.

And yes, people's ideas evolve, sometimes swing wildly. I think there are lessons, some humbling, in these "swings to the right", something I want to look into in an upcoming piece.

Our family was in the Black Hills of South Dakota. July 20, 1969. Watching the first known landing on that battered bit of beauty.

Time for some music:

A modern cover of that old classic by Billy Strings- an amazing young artist.

And a local bandit:

I’ve never been a Musk hater. Mostly ambivalent. But this is too kind to him. He’s not a victim. He knew what he was doing. And he knows the narrative he now needs to spin to save his company. Creativity and vision are not his deficits. Execution is, and has been for some time. And he had all eyes on that weakness with DOGE.

I don't think he's a victim, no. You're right.

And I'm not excusing his behavior, either.

Just hoping he changes course. I'd welcome that, more than the alternative...

Agree. I did have to follow up on this after the X tirade between these two men! Insane. It’s like a love affair. Elon knew what he was getting into, but it doesn’t make hurt any less. I hope they reconcile, just to reorient everyone’s attention back to the issues at hand.

I'm really enjoying your pieces Slick because they demonstrate a lot of insight and compassion in understanding sides and figures you would otherwise really be irked by. I'm fingers crossed something better can come of him with prayer.

There are still reasons to be irked, but I do believe we all can change, and that people are complex, have concerns and goals and beliefs we may not share but that we do benefit from understanding. So thank you for seeing that, too!

Fingers crossed in prayer haha

Humane approach but useless imo. A person with integrity would never have shaken hands with Trump.2 in the first place. If he wasn't smart enough to realize that dancing with wannabe kings is a bad idea then his political intelligence is inadequate.

What a graceful letter. You see through him, and yet you won't write him off. Well done.

I think what Elon needs is what we all need (if we are honest and willing to look at ourselves).

Elon needs a Lord: someone to rein him in, give him some structure, let him know that he doesn't need to have all the answers but can just work as he should.

Elon needs a savior. He needs healing for a lifetime of hurts.

He needs a redeemer. He needs to take that contrition and turn his face from the hurts that he causes and all of the ways (as only he knows) that he falls short and misses the mark. And then, to be forgiven for it (all of it).

And he needs a friend. He can't do it alone. He needs a supernatural friend; who will look for him when he is lost, and rejoice when he returns to the fold.

He needs Jesus, his and our messiah.

Would you like milk and sugar with that?

I remember reading years ago an article recounting the memoirs from his first wife, and she recalled an instance when they hit the dance floor, either at the wedding or engagement, and he allegedly told her "I'm the Alfa (of the relationship)".

He's definitely got his net positives, but he's also part and parcel of a network, and it is what it is. If we ever get a big reveal, it'll be a case of watching two (or more) behemoth leviathans slugging it out for a chance to be the Titan.
